From the archive: Club collar and club tie
I stumbled across this picture the other day. It was taken 2 years ago... I remember pairing the herringbone jacket (2B, double vented) with navy chinos and black tassel loafers. The only thing that came to my mind when I found this picture, was the fact that I shoudn't have given the nice shirt away .... Regrets!

Try Grenadines
Grenadine silk is
woven, not knit...
So therefore Grenadine Ties are constructed as a regular four in hand is. They can be very usefull and universal, as the are more formal than a knit tie, but less shiny than a satin tie. The first one, should be a navy blue tie, afterwards try different colours. In silver it will make a great wedding tie,
in black an excellent funeral tie. Like the one James Bond
wears to the funeral at the beginning of Thunderball.
Try Grenadines!

Steak eating Apparel
The other day I went with some of my chaps to a sophisticated steak restaurant (Yes in vienna its diffcult to get a good steak).
It was an informal day meeting, before we would go out in the evening to celebrate our last gathering before christmas.

I sported a heavy winter wool, grey glencheck PoW Suit (2B, ticket pocket, 2 vents), a navy and white butcher stripes MTM shirt, the navy hermes uni "H" tie (one of the most universal ties I own) and brown Gucci loafers.
Later that night we ended up, touriung around the most popular clubs of Vienna, consuming heavy amounts of Vodka and Gin, and of course in the search for ladies, willing for new adventures.

Scarf it up.
In an older version of this blog I once posted a picture of my scarf collection, but as the rest of the older version, its long gone. The recent fall of temperatures and the beginning of the "real" winter have led me to take out my scarf collection, which is pictured here. Some scarfs I had to give away, because they were simply worn out, 1 or 2 I lost when out in the pubs, but some are new.
from the top to the bottom:
navy mini paisley Silk/wool - a favourite with my navy covert coat - bought in Sevilla last year
PHOENIX - navy floral silk/wool scarf bought a few years ago
red paisly silk, from my 2nd visit in Marbella
Cashmere-silk Pashmina
vintage Burberry house check, from my dad (I guess it's from the early 80ies)
vintage tartan scottish Lambswool scarf
cashmere tartan
Blackwatch Tartan, lambswool
Barbour house check, fom last christmas
uni - burgundy DAKS, lambswool

Es ist so schön Soldat zu sein...
Es ist so schön Soldat zu sein, Rosemarie,
Nicht jeder Tag bringt Sonnenschein, Rosemarie,
Doch du, du bist mein Talisman, Rosemarie,
Du gehst in allem mir voran, Rosemarie.
|: Soldaten sind Soldaten
In Worten und in Taten,
Sie kennen keine Lumperei
Und sind nur einem Mädel treu,
Valleri, Valleralle ralle ra!
Rosemarie. :|
3. In Treue fest für immerdar, Rosemarie,
Geh'n beide wir zum Traualtar, Rosemarie,
Und reichen uns zum Bund die Hand, Rosemarie,
In Treue fest fürs Vaterland, Rosemarie.

The challenge of sporting a silk pocket square.
I remember when I first wore a pocket square... I was about 16 and was going to dancing academy in vienna and one of that days I asked my father If he had a pocket square, so he put a white cotton handkerchief in my breast pocket and I went to the dancing academy, thinking that I would own the world. I did this on several occasions until I started to notice that older men very often sported silk pocket squares in different paisley patterns, which at that time was only done by older gents of vieneese society. (the recent comeback of pocket squares started with the mainstream "trad-ivy-preppy" return 3-4 years ago.) This always made me envious of those sporting pocket squares in diferent colours, and somehow It was not very easy to get a pocket square in different patterns, not even in online sources around europe (I am talking about affordable stuff for a 16 year old boy). Everything changed when I went to visit my family in colombia two summers later. I had already started to care about style and everything that comes hand in hand.
Fortunately my grandfather, asking him about silk pocket squares, gave my some very nice PS from different manufacturers (Saks 5th Avenue from 40 years ago, old Italian stuff etc.). So from that moment I started do sport silks in different variations to differenent ties, but alway resulting in the "trying too hard" level.
I started buying different patterns an colours but soon I learned to get back to cleaner combinations with the white linen. I thounght it would be better to leave the silks for later in my life, when I would look old and respectable.
It was not until last year when I started to think more about the silks and grabbed out some of my granddads silks and bought several different silks. I had to throw out most of them but kept a few examples.

So now and then I like to sport a silk pocket square, but I know when it's the time for the white linen...
